Crowded Barrel B-Roll is an internal tool for Crowded Barrel Distillery staff. It does two things: it uploads short behind-the-scenes video clips with a spoken note so the content editor knows what the footage shows, and it schedules film shoots and sends the crew a calendar invite.

It is staff-only. There are no accounts and no sign-in — on the first screen you pick your name from the staff list so uploads can be attributed to you.

The fastest route is the team Slack — post in the b-roll channel or DM Brandon. For anything that needs a written record, or if you are not on the Slack workspace:

Please include what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened instead. If an upload failed, the clip's length and rough file size help a lot.

Keep B-Roll on screen while it uploads. The app holds your screen awake for you, so auto-lock is not a problem — but if you switch to another app mid-upload, iOS suspends the transfer and it will fail after about 30 seconds.

Large 4K clips are shrunk on your phone before they are sent, which is the “Optimizing” step. That is normal and takes a few seconds. A weak signal is the other common cause — move to better Wi-Fi or cell coverage and send again. Nothing is lost by retrying; a failed upload does not leave a partial clip behind.

The staff list is managed centrally rather than in the app, so you cannot add yourself. Ask Brandon to add you, then force-close and reopen the app — the list is re-fetched every time the app starts.

Force-close it and open it again. The app loads its screens from the web, so reopening always pulls the current version. If the App Store or TestFlight offers an update, take it — those are the occasional changes that need a new build.

Editor feedback is delivered as a Slack DM, which requires your Slack member ID to be on file. If yours is missing or wrong, the DM silently goes nowhere. Ask Brandon to check it against your Slack profile.

That is almost always a permission that was declined the first time it was asked. Open the iPhone or iPad Settings app, scroll to B-Roll, and turn on Microphone, Camera, and Photos. Then reopen the app.

The microphone is used only while you are actively recording one of the spoken notes. The camera and photo library are used only to attach a clip.

Cancel it from inside the app, on the “Schedule a shoot” tab, rather than deleting the event from your calendar. Cancelling in the app removes the calendar event and tells everyone who was invited; deleting it from your own calendar only removes your copy and leaves the crew with an invite to a shoot that is not happening.

To change the time, cancel the shoot and book it again. Everyone invited is notified both times.
